Tehran prosecutor Ali Alqasimehr made the announcement Monday, stating that Trump is one of more than 30 suspects Iran’s government wants to put on trial for the killing of Soleimani in Iraq.

The president is accused of “murder and terrorism.”

The Defense Department added:

This strike was aimed at deterring future Iranian attack plans. The United States will continue to take all necessary action to protect our people and our interests wherever they are around the world.

The Department of State and the White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
